Our chapter was founded as an auxiliary of the Santa Ana Chapter in 1941. Assistance League of Huntington Beach was chartered in 1950 with the purpose mentioned above, to act as a friend to all we meet. We currently have 289 volunteers who provided over 34,000 service hours last year to our community.
When our chapter was first chartered we opened the first thrift store in Orange County. Our first philanthropic programs were raising money to fight polio, purchasing penicillin for the needy families and even making bed jackets and jelly for hospital patients.
As times changed, so did the nature of our philanthropic programs. We have worked with senior citizens, operated a speech center, tutored for the SAT Test, and staffed a hospital gift shop. Today our current philanthropic programs have changed to meet the current needs in our community.
Today our Thrift Store and our annual fundraising event, held in the spring, as well as donations and grants provide a continuing source of income that sustains the organization's philanthropic programs.
We are a dynamic and varied group of over 200 women, including a professional women's DreamCatcher's Auxiliary, and an Assisteens® Auxiliary with 85 members. All of us work together to make our community a better place.
If you are interested in volunteering and having fun while helping your community, please consider becoming a member.
We hope you will consider joining us or support our Thrift Shop and annual fundraiser.
